The Course aimed at providing to participants new facilitation skills and tools for a successful facilitation process: this has led to tackling a new Model (Path of Change PoC by Will Mc Whinney) and experimenting tools of facilitation for broadening facilitation skills (both digital and in presence).
The course has provided a new insight on what a facilitator is and his/her role in the making: the Model PoC provides six modes of change and twelve directional methods, enabling the facilitator the ability to determine which intervention is best suited to the given situation, starting from an initial analysis. This new approach of facilitation has also provided some insights that have been really interesting: among them is the importance of language in the interaction with others (as long as, just like Jan Lelie, our trainer, said: ‘Language reveals and conceals- different people will experience the same situation differently and express it differently.’) and in the different possibilities to handle a fruitful and successful process.
In this sense, the different directional methods and its list of possible interventions of PoC is a practical and comprehensive guide that will surely be useful in any future professional career in this sector. What I enjoyed the most are all the icebreaker activities and all the different sessions where feelings and thoughts come together in a fruitful and constructive manner.
The PoC training is an upgrade of skills and competencies: a new model and a new approach is key for any type of facilitation, providing professionals with tools to tackle any kind of situation. For me as a trainer in VET schools, the skills acquired will be used fruitfully for the classroom workshop, especially in the initial intake, in the brainstorming activity and in the phase out activity.
The course has provided a very insightful overview on the role of facilitator (with a lot of inputs for reflections): the thorough comprehension on the role of the facilitator, the needed soft and hard skills for a successful facilitation, all the knowledge background needed, the importance of tools and the importance of a common language.
Being a facilitator is not an easy task: it requires a continuous upgrading and challenging, and experimenting new ways of thinking and of approaching problems and issues, new languages and new tools is necessary,both from a professional and personal point of view. The possibility provided by the Erasmus Plus ‘Fertilizer for Facilitators- Building Foundations for Future Facilitators’ course will have a beneficial impact on my professional career and therefore I am really convinced that it will be a starting point in my career.
